RE: Opinion: sway bar or no sway bar

You have a very substantial tow vehicle there.
I would say that as long as the 30' Terry is properly designed AND properly loaded to place 12-15% of the trailers weight on the hitch EVERYTIME you hitch up, you shouldn't need a sway control system.
That's alot to ask though.

RE: What is killing my battery

I pulled the breakawy switch out to activate the brakes.
You should NEVER do this while parked unless your trailer is in a roll away situation.
Chocks are cheap.

RE: What’s up with bicyclists riding the white line?!? (rant)

On state routes in WA they are allowed 18" inside the "fog line"... And, while I agree that most of them don't follow that rule I gotta ask you... Do you really want to run them down?
I see them all the time on my route to go camping over Chinook Pass... What they are doing is NOT my idea of fun.. So, should I hit 'em just because?
As Sly Stone said so many years ago... Different strokes for different folks...
I share the road with dummies every day.

RE: Good beginner guitar?

I keep seeing the name Ovation come up and I can tell you one thing about Ovations...
Either you love 'em... Or you hate 'em...
I've been an Ovation player for over 30 years now, and I LOVE my Custom Balladeer 1612.

RE: Good beginner guitar?

The brand names mean way less than the dealer you buy from. Just like RVs...
I've been playing guitar for many more years than I care to think about and the main thing about guitars (like RV's) is that they require maintenance and adjustments.
I agree that the $300 price point is a good start for a beginners acoustic and in that range Seagull is the first brand that pops in my head. Even though I have not been in the market for many years, they make seem to make some really nice instruments.

RE: Stolen Hitch

I take it out when not in use. keeps it from getting road grime on it, keeps it from rusting and keeps you from knocking your shins on it!
Yep... If it's not coupled to the trailer, it's stored in the pass through storage.

RE: How much can I haul with a 3/4 ton truck??

I did this for my father in law last year... Just load the first palate as far forward as possible, then bust the second pallate open and load the bags one at a time on either side of the first pallete until you have about half of them loaded up. Then put the rest behind the pallete.
Weight distribution doesn't just aply to hitches ya know.

RE: Hoping to get off cheap from blow out damage....

Hey Fabguy, make sure you look closer for damage. I had a tire blow on my 5'er, and I thought the only damage was to the fender skirt, and my dealer and I handled it. A while later, I found a water leak that was coming through the slide-out seal that was damaged, and I also found some other previously un-discovered structural damage. I now wish I had filed an insurance claim.
I crawled around underneath and checked it out pretty good while on the road. This happened on the 3rd day of a 2 week trip so I had plenty oportunity to do so. I also had my dad and brother take a look to see if he could find anything that I missed and they didn't. This was on the non-slide side, I already straightend out a bent gusset (I don't go by Fabguy for nothin' ya know... Sheetmetal fabricator for 20+ years now by trade). I also patched up a small area where the underbelly was torn with some duct tape.
I'm pretty sure that I'm good to go.

RE: Hoping to get off cheap from blow out damage....

Just got the parts today.... Dealer had them on the shelf!!!
Saturday I went and took the bent up pieces off to take to my RV dealer to see what I can do about it... They had ALL of the stuff on the shelf... The bent up silver colored metal piece was $53 for a little over 6' of it, the water heater door was $15 (used), the sealant stuff was $7, the latch for the water heater door was 2 for $7, and the latch for the entry door was $7 for a total of $94 with tax. The white plastic fender skirt went right back to it's original form once I unscrewed it from the bent up metal piece.
I'm gonna take the original metal piece into work and flatten it out to use for a pattern on the the new piece for drilling and cutouts ETC. Once I do that it should only take about half an hour to put it back together all sealed up and everything.

RE: Mouse Hunting

One thing you have to realize is that the mouse doesn't want to be in your TT any more than you want him in there... He probably got in by accident and can't find his way out.
I'm thinking that's what happened in my one and only mouse invation that I put an end to a couple of weeks ago. Once I confirmed that I did indeed have a mouse living in my TT I baited 2 snap traps with peanut butter and placed them in the locations where I knew the little guy had been feeding. 20 minutes later... Dead mouse... End of story....
Then I took all the access panels off in the areas where he had been leaving clues to see if there was any evidence of long term residence and there was not. He was just a hitchhicker that took a ride in the wrong rig.

RE: Hoping to get off cheap from blow out damage....

Many insurers consider this a "COLLISION" claim, so anything over your deductible would be covered...."Collision with a roadbed or anything thrown up against the vehicle" is language commonly used in claims. This is just a thought as your lead line seemed to inquire as to how you could minimize your loss.
$500 deductable.... I really doubt there's $500 damage, but I could be wrong.
I mostly posted this to point out that if you don't check your tires on a regular bassis, you can get bit. I have seen and heard stories of major damage caused by tire blowouts and I think I got off pretty easy. It really only ended up becoming a minor inconvenience and slowed us down by 20 minutes to get to the hospital..
BUT I won't get fooled again. Check your pressures EVERY day before you tow!!!!

Hoping to get off cheap from blow out damage....

Due to a medical emergency we had to make a hastey retreat from the campsite we were staying at on the first night of our vacation, and as a result we left with an under inflated tire. We had a blowout about 60 miles down the road and this is the result.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v248/jeffoen/Trailer.jpg
Looking back, I really wish had had taken that extra minute to check the air pressure as I have had issues with that tire loosing pressure in the past. Changing a tire on an interstate with cars blowing by you at 70 MPH can be quite a hair raising experience. I'm just thanking my lucky stars that it was on the curb side and not the street side.
Camp on!

RE: What is a good truck and ratio for towing?

OR, :W you could think outside the box and explore something a little larger, say an MDT or even a full HDT and in the latter case, get yourself one thats used with half a million KM's on it with 465 HP and 1650 Ft/Lbs of torque that will not come out of cruise control towing ANYTHING of an RV nature on 6% grades and that will not require you to touch the service brakes on the downhill side but instead maintain speed with 1st stage Jake engaged and best yet; will cost you probably a third of what you'd pay for a new diesel p/u with the same remaining life expectancy! :B
I'd love to see that... An MDT pulling an 18.5 foot fiver!!!!
